Evaluation of an Online Educational Child Injury Prevention Intervention

Summary
The goal of this evaluation is to learn what effect the Safe Kids Washington website, a self-guided web-based intervention program, has on: Parent knowledge of injury prevention strategies Parent attitudes, self-efficacy and behavioral intention regarding use of the strategies Parent satisfaction with the Safe Kids training, and Parent opinion of the Safe Kids website usability, functionality, and perceived usefulness The program will be evaluated using a random control design. Participants are randomly assigned to either the Safe Kids Washington condition or to a control condition. Intervention participants will: Access three modules, focused on pedestrian safety, bicycling safety, and sports safety with an emphasis on concussion prevention watch a brief informational video with relevant statistics about the injury threat be presented with streamlined injury prevention information like how to wear a helmet correctly watch a brief animated vignette with a fictional story about injury prevention engage in interactive game-like knowledge checks like quizzes and flashcards be provided resources like factsheets, tips and guides for parents Control participants will: be provided access to three CDC HEADS UP fact sheets, focused on similar topics of playground safety, bike helmet safety, and concussion tips
