Reiki Before Colonoscopy

Summary
The goal of this clinical trial was to learn whether Reiki given before colonoscopy affects patients' anxiety and comfort. The main questions were: Does Reiki reduce anxiety? Does Reiki improve comfort? Researchers compared Reiki with sham Reiki (a procedure designed to resemble Reiki) and routine care. Seventy-six patients were randomly assigned to one of the three groups. Interventions
Reiki
Participants received one 25-30-minute Level 1 Reiki session at nine specified areas of the body. The session was administered before colonoscopy by a researcher initiated into Reiki, in accordance with the study protocol.
Sham reiki
In addition to routine care, participants received one 25-30-minute sham Reiki session at nine specified areas of the body before colonoscopy. The session followed the study protocol and was administered by Interviewer 2, who had not been initiated into Reiki.
