Acute Effects of Saccadic Eye-Movement Exercise on Flexibility and Handgrip Strength

Sponsor: Istanbul Gelisim University

View on ClinicalTrials.gov

Summary

This randomized controlled trial investigated whether a short session of saccadic eye-movement exercises could produce immediate changes in flexibility and handgrip strength in healthy adults. Thirty participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. The experimental group completed a standardized four-phase eye-movement exercise protocol lasting approximately 6-8 minutes, while the control group rested quietly for the same period. Firat\_Caglar\_Frontiers\_Eda Flexibility was assessed using the sit-and-reach test, and maximal handgrip strength was measured for both hands before and immediately after the intervention. The study aimed to determine whether brief saccadic eye-movement exercise could acutely influence these physical performance measures compared with resting. Firat\_Caglar\_Frontiers\_Eda The study was conducted in healthy adults in a single-session design. All 30 participants completed the study, and no adverse events such as dizziness, nausea, nystagmus, or visual discomfort were reported.

BEHAVIORAL

Four-Phase Saccadic Eye-Movement Exercise Protocol

A standardized four-phase saccadic eye-movement protocol was performed in a quiet, normally lit room. Participants kept the head stationary while performing horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and random-target eye movements toward visual targets. The protocol lasted approximately 6-8 minutes, with 30-second rest intervals between sets. Post-intervention assessments were performed after a 2-minute seated rest period.
