The Metabolic Response of Unweighted Treadmill Walking
Sponsor: NYU Langone Health
Summary
This study will use an experimental quantitative research design. Participants will serve as their own control with a metabolic assessment by open circuit spirometry when walking on the Alter G treadmill for less than ten minutes per trial at 3 mph while supporting their entire body mass. Randomly assigned trials at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of body mass will be conducted under steady state conditions. All trials will be conducted in one session.
Official title: Establishing a Physiologic Baseline: Metabolic and Cardiovascular Responses to Graded Body-Weight Support During Anti-Gravity Treadmill Walking: A Repeated-Measures Crossover Study

AlterG Treadmill
Participants will walk on an AlterG Treadmill for less than ten minutes per trial at 3 mph while supporting their entire body mass. The randomly assigned trials will be completed at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of body mass under steady-state conditions.
Metabolic Assessment
Conducted using a Parvo Medics TrueOne 2400 metabolic cart and standard heart rate monitor, one way valve mouthpiece, and nose clip.
