eAMS-Eco: Implementation of a Tool for Climate Conscious Inhaler Prescribing

The goal of this study is to determine whether an 'eco' version of the Electronic Asthma Management System (eAMS) can reduce inhaler carbon emissions in primary care, in patients with asthma. The existing eAMS uses patient-specific criteria (asthma control, asthma flare-up risk, and current medications) to provide guideline-based computerized clinical decision support to clinicians, to improve the delivery of asthma care. The eAMS-Eco includes embedded cues and messaging on the environmental impact of inhaler medications and links to a patient-friendly conversation aid that facilitates shared decision-making and climate-conscious prescribing. The study will evaluate the implementation of the eAMS-Eco in four primary care clinics that have been using the existing eAMS, using an interrupted time-series analysis (one year pre- and post-launch of the eAMS-Eco). The investigators will assess system uptake and user feedback on the eAMS-Eco, as well as changes in inhaler prescriptions (including resulting changes in carbon emissions and costs) and changes in asthma control, in the implementation period (eAMS-Eco) compared to the baseline period (eAMS).

Investigating the Impact of Early Time-Restricted Eating on Health Outcomes and Quality of Life in Adults With Mild Controlled Asthma Compared to Healthy Adults

This study aims to explore how early time-restricted eating (eTRE) - where all daily meals are eaten within a specific time window - affects health and quality of life in adults. The researchers will compare results between adults with mild, well-controlled asthma and adults without asthma (the control group). Participants can continue to eat their normal food; only the timing of meals will change.

The Electronic Asthma Management System in Pharmacies

The goal of this study is to assess the effect of an electronic asthma management system in pharmacies (eAMS-Pharm) on asthma control assessment, asthma medication adjustment, asthma action plan delivery, and prompting for specialist referral in severe asthma. The study assesses the differences on pharmacy processes (affecting both the pharmacy team and patients) and pharmacy-delivered care using an interrupted time-series analysis (six-months before vs. six-months after the introduction of eAMS-Pharm in study pharmacy sites). The eAMS-Pharm uses patient data (asthma control, asthma flare-up risk, and current medications) to provide clinical decision support to pharmacists, empowering them to bridge existing gaps between guideline-recommended asthma care and patient care received.
