NCT07598175

Study on the Optimal Waveform Patterns of Electroacupuncture Targeted Intervention for Bell's Palsy Based on Surface Electromyography Characteristics

The goal of this clinical study is to find out whether different electronic acupuncture wave forms can effectively treat recovery-stage Bell's palsy in adults and evaluate their safety. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Can targeted electronic acupuncture wave forms improve facial nerve function in patients with Bell's palsy? * What is the optimal electronic acupuncture waveform for different degrees of facial nerve injury? * What adverse events may occur during electronic acupuncture treatment? Researchers will compare low-frequency continuous wave electronic acupuncture and intermittent wave electronic acupuncture to determine which waveform works better for recovery-stage Bell's palsy. Participants will: * Receive either low-frequency continuous wave electronic acupuncture or intermittent wave electronic acupuncture every other day for 4 weeks * Undergo surface sEMG and ENoG examinations at baseline, Week 2, and Week 4 * Complete facial function assessments and safety evaluations at each clinic visit

NCT07573358

Validation of Artificial Intelligence-Based Facial Paralysis Assessment in Patients With Bell's Palsy

This observational study aims to assess the concurrent validity of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based facial paralysis assessment system in patients with unilateral Bell's palsy. Currently, clinical assessment relies on subjective scales like the Sunnybrook Facial Grading System, which can vary between different observers. This study will compare AI-generated composite asymmetry scores-derived from real-time computer vision analysis of facial landmarks-with scores from the Sunnybrook system. The goal is to determine if AI can provide a valid, objective method for monitoring facial nerve recovery.

Kabat Rehabilitation Versus Kinesiology Taping in Bell's Palsy

This randomized controlled trial aims to compare the effects of Kabat rehabilitation versus kinesiology taping, both combined with conventional therapy, on facial asymmetry and functional disability in patients with unilateral Bell's palsy. A total of 38 participants will be recruited from the University of Lahore Teaching Hospital. Participants will be randomly assigned into two groups using a lottery method. Outcomes will be assessed using the Sunnybrook Facial Grading System and the Facial Disability Index at baseline, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks.

Effects of Photobiomodulation and Electrical Stimulation Among Bell's Palsy Patients

Despite promising evidence supporting both photobiomodulation (PBM) and electrical stimulation (ES) in Bell's palsy rehabilitation, key gaps remain in the literature. Few studies have directly compared these modalities under standardized conditions, especially while keeping facial exercises constant across groups. Inconsistent treatment parameters such as variations in PBM wavelength or ES intensity limit the comparability and replication of existing findings. Additionally, many studies rely on subjective outcome measures and lack structured timelines for assessing facial symmetry, neuromuscular coordination, or long-term recovery, including complications like synkinesis. These limitations highlight the need for a well-controlled comparative study to determine the more effective modality when paired with consistent facial rehabilitation exercises.
