Assessment of Dental Pathologies Using Digital Tools

Digital technology is playing an increasingly important role in dentistry, because of its ability to support the practitioner and increase work efficiency. Among digital tools, orthopantomogram (OPT or panoramic) radiography is currently the most widely used. It provides a global view of the jaws, highlighting internal structures in 2D. As in other fields, scientific advances have made it possible to go beyond the limited representation of two planes of space and obtain 3D images. The intraoral scanner (IOS) or "optical impression camera" appeared in the mid-80s. They use light to create a digital optical impression that reproduces the surface of external anatomical structures in 3D images. It improves dental practice, making impressions less uncomfortable for patients, saving clinical time, facilitating storage and archiving, and facilitating transmission to the prosthetist where appropriate. This type of device is already well established in dental practices. More recently, Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) has also begun to develop. This 3D sectional imaging technique adds an extra dimension to the exploration of internal structures. Imaging examinations provide additional information to that obtained from the visual clinical oral examination. Together, they help the practitioner to establish the diagnosis and treatment plan. Currently, visual information has to be collected manually. Collecting this data represents a significant amount of information. Its quality and completeness are crucial to the success of the treatment. Given the high volume of consultations, and practitioners' need to optimize their time, it would be interesting to assess whether optical impressions, at least in part, could help to acquire this clinical data more systematically and more rapidly, in order to improve patient management. Similarly, Cone Beam CT (CBCT), with its 3D data, improves the accuracy of diagnostic information. It would also be interesting to assess the real added value of this examination. The RESTODATA-NUM study follows on from the RESTODATA study, the results of which provided recent information on the oral status of adult patients, and their care needs. The aim of this study is to compare the performance of a standard real-life examination by the practitioner combining clinical and radiographic examinations (referred to here as practitioner-on-patient detection) on the one hand, and an examination based on imaging results obtained using digital tools on the other, in terms of detecting dental condition in a sample of adult patients consulting for an oral examination at one of the participating centers.

Diagnostic Performance and Children's Acceptance of Near-Infrared Light Transillumination and Bitewing Radiographs for Detecting Proximal Cavitation in Primary Molars of Patients Aged 4 to 10 Years

The goal of this observational study is to compare the diagnostic performance of three detection methods for approximal carious lesions in primary molars among pediatric patients aged 4-10 years. The study focuses on children in three age groups: 4-6 years, 6-8 years, and 8-10 years. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Are the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and area under the curve (AUC) different across the three diagnostic techniques (bitewing radiography, near-infrared light transillumination, and their combination)? * Are these diagnostic parameters influenced by patient age? * Which technique yields the highest level of patient acceptance? Researchers will compare the three diagnostic approaches to determine whether age influences diagnostic performance and patient acceptance. Participants will: * Be examined using bitewing radiography and near-infrared light transillumination * Undergo tooth separation for 7 days using orthodontic elastic separators * Receive clinical examination of the target approximal surface * Be asked to rate their experience using the Simplified Facial Pain Scale (S-FPS)

Evaluation of the Success Rate of Pulpotomy Versus to Root Canal Therapy in Management of Mature First Permanent Molars With Irreversible Pulpitis

The goal of This current study compare the clinical \& radiographic success rate between two different modalities conventional RCT and VPT using Bio-C-Repair as a pulp capping material to treat young patients with mature first permanent molars with irreversible pulpitis.

Intra Oral Scan and CBCT Aided Diagnosis of Dental Plaque and Caries

In this prospective controlled trial, patients will be enrolled at the University Hospital Ghent. Inclusion criteria are: age between 18 and 70 years old, presence of 20 or more teeth, and have a minimum one carious tooth surface. All participants have to sign an informed consent. Pregnant women will be excluded. First an intra-oral scan will be taken for visual plaque detection. Thereafter, plaque scores will be noted after visual inspection and with plaque staining. After supra-gingival calculus removal and oral hygiene instructions bite-wing radiographs will be taken and a visual caries inspection will be performed. Finally, a new intra-oral scan will be taken for visual caries detection, followed by a CBCT scan. Minimally 2 weeks after this intervention, plaque-scores and caries-scores will be measured by an independent researcher and the same researcher on the intra-oral scans, CBCT and radiographs(Pictures taken with X-rays to view the inside of your teeth and jawbone)(for caries detection). The following variables will be measured: 1. Plaque measurement: 1) Plaque detection using intra-oral scan images (white light (and fluorescence)) will be performed and compared with 2) the assessment of visual plaque detection and 3) using plaque staining (golden standard). The findings will be recorded in a plaque status through the website www.parodontalstatus. And exported to be attached to the anonymized patient file. 2. Caries: The results of caries detection by intra-oral scan and bite-wing radiographs will be compared with the results of clinical caries detection and bite-wing radiographs on one hand and the CBCT images on the other hand. ICDAS scores will be registered for the visual assessment, CBCT and bite-wing radiograph images assessment. The following step-by-step protocol will be used: The digital data, including images, that will be the subject of the research will be acquired using 3SHAPE's Trios 5 intra-oral scan. The CBCT image will be made with the ProMax 3D of Planmeca. These two imaging techniques will be the only study specific handeling during the study. 1. explanation to patients 2. take an intra-oral scan (STUDY SPECIFIC) 3. conventional visual inspection and palpation plaque scoring 4. plaque staining (record with parostatus.ch) 5. take an intra-oral scan with plaque staining in a situation that is viewed on site, in the mouth, without removing or moving anything.(STUDY SPECIFIC) 6. calculus removal and cleaning 7. take bite-wing radiographs 8. visual caries detection 9. take a thirth intra-oral scan (STUDY SPECIFIC) 10.
