NCT05851898

Serotonin-norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor in Prophylaxis of Depression Following Fragility Fractures

The goal of this pilot study is to learn about the feasibility about prescribing anti-depressants at discharge in patients aged 50 years and older with a lower extremity fragility fracture. The main questions it aims to answer are: * What are the obstacles to enrolling patients and prescribing anti-depressants among older adults? * Is it possible to start prescribing SNRI medication upon discharge? * What is the prevalence of depressive symptoms amongst patients with different types of injuries and weightbearing status? * What is a transition of care plan for patients who have geriatric depression and require further care? Participants will: * Undergo screening using the Geriatric Depression Scale * Start on Duloxetine 30mg daily at time of discharge * Report medication compliance and complete re-screening monthly * Complete patient reported outcome measures and 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year * Receive a referral to behavioral health, primary care, or psychiatrist for evaluation if they screen positive at any timepoint

Recurrence Markers, Cognitive Burden and Neurobiological Homeostasis in Late-Life Depression

Late-life depression (LLD) is associated with disability, increased risk for cognitive decline and dementia, elevated suicide risk, and greater all-cause mortality. These outcomes are related to depression being a recurrent disorder, with repeated episodes over a patient's lifetime. Recurrence rates (defined as including both relapse and recurrence) are high in LLD. The goals of this study are to identify neurobiological factors that predict recurrence risk, and examine how cognitive performance changes are both influenced by these neurobiological factors and also predict recurrence risk.

Leveraging Adult Protective Service Interaction to Offer Evidence-Based Treatment for Depression in Elder Neglect/Self Neglect

The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of an evidence-based treatment for depression delivered over an ipad, computer, or smartphone can help Adult Protective Services (APS) clients with their activities of daily living to evaluate whether reductions on measures of depression and apathy (a) mediate reduced Elder Neglect/Self Neglect (EN/SN) behaviors; and (b) whether secondary posited mediating mechanisms are also active in impacting depression and apathy

Localized Analysis of Normalized Distance From Scalp to Cortex and Personalized Evaluation (LANDSCAPE)

Scalp to cortex distance (SCD), as a key technological parameter of brain stimulation, has been highlighted in the guidelines of non-invasive brain stimulation. However, in the context of age-related brain changes, the region-specific SCD and its impact on stimulation-induced electric field in different types of neurodegenerative diseases remain unclear.

Engage for Late-Life Depression and Comorbid Executive Dysfunction

Although there are an increasing number of mental health treatment adaptations for older adults, there are still a number of factors to consider when making these adaptations. Cognitive decline is one such factor that places significant burden on older adults and can interfere with traditional mental health therapies. Engage is a behavioral treatment approach that has shown to be effective in treating late life depression. The investigators are testing the feasibility of Engage as a treatment method for late life depression in older adults with cognitive decline. The objective is to corroborate Engage as an alternative late life depression treatment method for a sub-population of older adults with cognitive decline. Cognitive decline poses a unique mental health treatment barrier that is often over looked in younger populations. With a relatively higher prevalence of cognitive decline in older adulthood, it is imperative that a feasible mental health treatment program that can be effective in the presence of cognitive decline.

Development of a Healthcare Service Platform for Successful Aging

The goal of this living-lab clinical trial is to test the effectiveness of digital health monitoring and feedback platform for community dwelling older adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Identify digital sensing variables that are predictive of mental and physical health declines and health emergencies of older adults * Develop digital health monitoring service to inform individualized daily health status of older adults users * Develop ICT network to share the daily health status and emergency signals with community based healthcare service providers and family caregivers if an older adult user approves of them to receive their health information. Participants will be asked to participate in a living lab using a wearable sensor, motion sensor, and smartphone applications for 6 weeks and also take part in pre-mid-post surveys to evaluate the usability, accuracy, and effectiveness of the digital healthcare service platform to improve health managements and connections with community and family caregivers. If there is a comparison group: Researchers will compare age and gender matched control group to see if health status of the living-lab group is better than the control group.
