Wound Healing After Gingivectomy

Gingival enlargement caused by chronic inflammation may require surgical intervention when non-surgical periodontal therapy is insufficient. Gingivectomy and gingivoplasty are commonly performed procedures to remove excessive gingival tissue and restore normal gingival contour. However, postoperative wound healing may be affected by factors such as microbial contamination and the inflammatory response. Medical ozone therapy has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and biostimulatory properties that may enhance tissue regeneration and accelerate wound healing. The aim of this randomized split-mouth clinical trial is to evaluate the effect of adjunctive gaseous ozone therapy on wound healing following gingivectomy/gingivoplasty in individuals with chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement. Twenty-four systemically healthy participants diagnosed with chronic inflammatory gingival enlargement will be included. Surgical sites will be randomly assigned in a split-mouth design to either the test group (gingivectomy/gingivoplasty with adjunctive gaseous ozone application) or the control group (gingivectomy/gingivoplasty alone). Clinical periodontal parameters (Plaque Index, Gingival Index, Bleeding on Probing, Probing Pocket Depth, and Clinical Attachment Level) will be assessed at baseline and post-operative Day 21. Histopathological outcomes (Superficial Cell Index and Keratinization Index) will be evaluated at baseline and on post-operative Days 1, 3, 7, and 21. The results of this study are expected to provide clinical and histopathological evidence regarding the potential benefits of adjunctive ozone therapy in periodontal wound healing.

Effect of Injectable Platelet-rich Fibrin (i-PRF) on Wound Healing After Gingivectomy

This study evaluates the clinical and biochemical effects of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) on wound healing after gingivectomy, a surgical procedure used to treat gingival overgrowth. Using a split-mouth design, i-PRF was applied to the surgical site on one side of the mouth (test group), while the other side was treated with conventional gingivectomy alone, without any additional material (control group). Clinical periodontal parameters (plaque index, gingival index, probing depth, clinical attachment level, and bleeding on probing) were assessed at baseline, before surgery, and 28 days after surgery. Additionally, levels of PDGF, IGF-1, and IL-18 in gingival crevicular fluid were measured before surgery and on the third postoperative day to evaluate the biochemical impact of i-PRF on wound healing. A total of 31 participants aged 15-50 years were included in the study.

Clinical Efficacy of Chlorhexidine Varnish in Reducing Gingival Hyperplasia, Plaque Accumulation, and White Spot Lesions in Orthodontic Patients

This study investigates whether applying a chlorohexidine varnish (a dental coating) reduces gum overgrowth, plaque buildup, and early tooth decay (white spots) in patients with braces. Each participant's mouth is divided into two sides: one receives the active varnish, and the other receives a placebo. Changes in gum health, plaque, and white spots are tracked over 3 months.

Testing the Efficacy of Photobiomodulation Therapy and Hyaluronic Acid Gel on Post-surgical Healing After Gingivectomy

This study consists of random patient selection and allocating them in 3 different groups. After being fit to be included according to the protocol's criteria and signing an informed consent, patients will be distributed after performing a dental surgery known as gingivectomy. Gingivectomy has been classified as the gold standard treatment option for the control of gingival enlargement. Wound recovery after gingivectomy and gingivoplasty occurs by secondary intention healing, thus post-surgical wounds can be strongly associated with discomfort, pain and delayed healing. For that reason, the first group will consist of 13 patients who will be exposed to hyaluronic acid gel or gingigel and photobiomodulation therapy to see if there is significant results in the post-operative healing phase. The second group will also consist of 13 patients who will undergo only photobiomodulation therapy. While the third group will have no clinical supportive care besides follow-up and analgesics upon request. All the values will be determined by using scores such as Visual analogue scale for pain, Landry's index for healing assessment and oral health quality of life, which consists of 14 questions to asses the enhancement of everyday problems affected by dental situations. Each case will be followed-up for 3 months post-operative.
