DHS Fixation for Extra Capsular Fractures of Proximal Femur in Geriatric Population
This study compares two approaches to starting walking and weight bearing after surgery for a fracture near the hip in older adults. All participants undergo fixation with a dynamic hip screw, a metal implant that holds the broken bone in position while it heals.
Ninety participants are randomly assigned to two equal groups. One group starts weight bearing during the first week after surgery. The other group delays mobilization until after the first week. Both groups receive routine postoperative care and physiotherapy.
The study aims to determine whether earlier weight bearing improves pain, walking ability, and everyday activities. Recovery is assessed using the Modified Harris Hip Score at six weeks and three months after surgery. Postoperative complications are also recorded.
