Doxycycline vs. Macrolide for MRMP (DOMINO)

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if doxycycline works to treat pneumonia in children. It focuses on children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection that may not respond to standard medicines. The main questions it aims to answer are: * Does doxycycline stop fevers faster than azithromycin? * Is doxycycline safe for children, specifically regarding tooth color changes? Researchers will compare doxycycline to azithromycin to see if doxycycline works better to treat this type of pneumonia. Participants will: * Take either doxycycline or azithromycin by mouth for 7 to 14 days. * Check their body temperature to see when their fever goes away. * Visit the hospital to check for any medical problems. * Have their teeth checked for color changes 28 days after starting the medicine.

CARE-ID: Dynamics of Respiratory Infections in Children and Transmission in Households and Schools

Viral respiratory tract infections are very common in children. They contribute to missed time in school, work disruption for caregivers and can also cause severe illness requiring hospitalization and rarely death. In the 2022-2023, influenza, RSV and SARS-CoV-2 viruses infected a large number of children which strained the pediatric healthcare system in many jurisdictions. Unfortunately, there continues to be limited data on duration of infectiousness and transmission risk of these viruses to inform public health decisions during times when there is significant circulation of these viruses.

A Trial of Placebo Versus Macrolide for Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Childhood Pneumonia: MYTHIC Study

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare a placebo (a look-alike substance that contains no active drug) with a commonly used antibiotic in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae (a specific bacterium) induced community-acquired pneumonia. The main question it aims to answer is: Is antibiotic treatment needed in Mycoplasma pneumoniae (a specific bacterium) induced pneumonia? Participants will receive either a placebo or a antibiotic treatment and track their symptoms and vital signs until they are healthy. Researchers will then compare the length of symptoms between the placebo and the antibiotic group.
