Behavioral Impact and Neural Correlates of Network-based Brain Stimulation in Schizophrenia
The primary aims of this study are to investigate the behavioral effects of applying targeted transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to a node of the brain network subserving attention in schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder and to correlate these effects to changes in brain network connectivity. Assumptions: -Cerebral activity can be investigated through the correlated activity of cortical nodes that constitute functional brain networks -Behavior can be correlated to the strength of correlated activity between and within nodes of these cortical networks -TMS to targeted nodes leads to changes in patterns of activity in these cortical networks Hypothesis: TMS to a node of the attention network in schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder will influence network connectivity leading to measurable and predictable effects on attention.

Developing a Scalable Tobacco Cessation Program for Cancer Survivors and Caregivers
Given the challenges to delivering tobacco cessation treatment in oncology care and the unique challenges faced by individuals attempting to quit tobacco after a cancer diagnosis, scalable cessation programs that are tailored to the experiences of cancer survivors that also integrate caregiver/family support are needed. To address this need, this study will use an intervention that consists of two primary strategies: 1) a tailored cessation program for cancer survivors and family members/caregivers who use tobacco and 2) healthcare provider training. Healthcare providers will receive training on the AAC model (Ask patients about tobacco use, Advise patients to quit, Connect patients to cessation resources), including materials focused on tobacco cessation in cancer care from the CDC, as well as a brief evidence-based communication skills training based on the C-LEAR (Counsel, Listen, Empathize, Answer, Recommend) approach.

MATAspire: Mental Health Awareness Tailored App for Substance Prevention and Integrated Resilience Education
The MATAspire intervention is a web-app designed to promote substance misuse prevention education and bolster protective coping skills whereby students complete six weekly interactive modules using a smart device or computer. Each module is approximately 15-20 minutes long and focuses on select substances and coping strategies: (i) adaptive coping strategies, (ii) alcohol, (iii) cannabis, (iv) nicotine, (v) prescription drugs and opioids, (vi) final module. The modules are based on key theoretical constructs, behavior change strategies, and practical module components: attitudes (knowledge), perceived susceptibility (risk perceptions), and subjective norms (normative re-education). The intervention will be evaluated via a time series design using a sample of (\~1000 students) randomly assigned to either the intervention or the control conditions at a public institution in Southern California.
