NCT07429344

EASY Algorithm Trial (Elbow Trauma Assessment Using Sonography in Children and Youth) Diagnostic Accuracy and Safety of Point-of-care Ultrasound as a Screening Tool for Suspected Elbow Fractures in Children Aged 5 to 15 Years: a Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study

The goal of this observational study is to learn about the safety and accuracy of ultrasound as a screening tool to detect broken bones (fractures) in the elbow area in children and youth aged 5 to 15 years. The main question it aims to answer is: \- Can ultrasound reliably show that there is a fracture in the elbow area after an accident? Participants will: * Have an ultrasound of their elbow to look for fluid in the joint. * Have standard X-rays of their elbow to check if there is a fracture. * Have their medical records checked and answer a phone call 6 weeks later to see how their elbow has healed (only if no fracture was found during the first visit).

RECRUITING

NCT07400692

This is a Study to Find Out Whether Surgery Using a Metal Plate to Fix a Broken Elbow in Older Adults Leads to Better Recovery and Arm Function Compared to Non-surgical Treatment

This study takes place in one hospital and uses a random method to divide patients into groups. It looks at the best way to treat a broken elbow (specifically, a displaced olecranon fracture) in older adults who don't use their arms heavily. There are 84 patients in total, with 42 people in each group

RECRUITING

NCT05657899

The With Or Without Olecranon K-wires Trial

Fractures of the elbow tip (olecranon) that leave the elbow joint stable but where the fracture ends are separated (Mayo type 2a and 2b) can be treated with pins and a metal wire (tension band wiring, TBW) or metal wiring alone (cerclage fixation, CF ). Previous studies have reported high re-operation and complication rates following TBW. The current study's hypothesis, based on two retrospective studies, is that CF of these fractures yield lower re-operation rates compared with TBW. The investigators also hypothesize that the overall complication rate will be lower following CF. The aim is to investigate this hypothesis in a randomized controlled trial. Patients that are 18 years or older with Mayo type 2a and 2b olecranon fractures at Skåne University hospital will be invited to the study. Participation is voluntary. Patients who accept participation will be randomly assigned to surgery by either TBW or cerclage fixation. Two hundred participants will be followed by physiotherapists for 36 months post-surgery assessing re-operations, complications, patient reported outcome, and elbow function.

NCT07014358

Clinical Trial to Evaluate Three Systems of Osteosynthesis for Fixation of Olecranon Osteotomies in Adults

Surgery of the elbow joint is often made difficult by the highly constrained nature of the elbow joint. This is why it is often necessary to perform an osteotomy of the olecranon, the proximal part of the ulna, which allows perfect exposure of the entire articular surface. After performing the osteotomy, access to the joint is obtained, the articular problem is solved as appropriate and, upon completion, the osteotomized bone is fixed with a stable fixation system that allows the osteotomy to heal without problems. It is a safe, reproducible procedure that is associated with low associated morbidity. The main problems associated with this procedure are the lack of consolidation of the osteotomy or the need for removal of the osteosynthesis material at a later stage.

NCT04401462

Scandinavian Olecranon Research in the Elderly

This study is designed to study the difference between operative treatment, either with tension band wiring or plate fixation, and conservative treatment of traumatic, displaced olecranon fractures in elderly population in a non-inferiority study setting.
