Ambient AI Clinical Trial

This is a single-site pragmatic randomized control trial studying the effect of ambient artificial intelligence (AI) scribes on the delivery of medical care to patients in the ambulatory setting. The study will last 150 days and include up to 65 providers in the intervention group. Providers will be recruited from three medical specialties, including primary care, oncology, and urology. The study will enroll providers and randomize them to an intervention group (access to the ambient AI scribe product) or a control group (routine patient care). Providers will be evaluated for burnout and task load measures through digital surveys at the beginning, middle, and end of the study. Provider electronic health record (EHR) usage data will also be evaluated for time spent documenting, time spent after hours on days with scheduled clinical care, and time between the start of the clinical encounter and signing it.

Choice and Autonomy in Learning Mindfulness for Pediatric Residents

This study is a pilot clinical trial designed to evaluate a flexible, online mindfulness program for pediatric residents. Medical training can be stressful, and although mindfulness programs are often offered to support well-being, many are either in-person or follow a fixed format that may not fit individual schedules or preferences. This study will test a digital mindfulness program called Wakeful, which allows participants to complete the course at their own pace. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: one group will be able to choose the length of their mindfulness program (3, 5, or 7 weeks), while the other group will be assigned a program length without a choice. The goal is to understand whether giving participants a choice improves how often they use the program, how satisfied they are with it, and whether they complete it. The main outcomes of this study focus on how participants interact with the program, including how many sessions they complete, how often they practice mindfulness on their own, and how useful and relevant they find the program. The study will also look at overall satisfaction and how many participants drop out before finishing. In addition, the study will explore whether participants report changes in mindfulness and compassion for others, although it is not designed to determine clinical improvements in mental health. By understanding how pediatric residents engage with different program formats, this study aims to inform the design of more flexible and user-centered digital wellness programs that better fit into demanding medical training environments.

Assessing the Efficacy and Impact of Ambient AI Scribes in Healthcare

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess the impacts of ambient AI scribes on the workload and burnout in physicians who see patients in a clinic setting at least twice in a week, as well as the impacts on patient-physician interaction. The main questions it aims to answer are: * What is the impact of ambient AI scribe use on physician workload and burnout? * What is the impact of ambient AI scribe use on quality of patient-physician interaction? Researchers will compare the group of physicians using the ambient AI scribes to the group not using ambient AI scribes to see if there are any significant differences. Participants randomly assigned to Group A will make use of the AI scribe and participants randomly assigned to Group B will not use any AI scribe for the 10 working day duration of the study. They will be asked to complete a survey assessing workload and burnout immediately prior to the commencement of the study and at the end of each week of the study or 5 full working days for part time physicians. They will also invite their patients to complete a survey assessing their experience after each clinical interaction.

Evaluating an Intervention for Physician Burnout

The goals of this randomized controlled trial are 1) to test the efficacy of an app-based program in reducing physician burnout vs. no app (control) in 100 physicians; 2) to explore the role of an online live training to augment outcomes and develop an ongoing and sustainable support community with a subsample of physicians.
