Study of the Hemorai Vysio Wearable Device for Monitoring Changes Related to Blood Loss in Patients During and After Surgery.

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether the Hemorai Vysio wearable device can be used safely and feasibly to track relative changes over time in tissue oxygen, hemoglobin-related signals, blood flow, and oxygen use during and after inpatient surgery. The device does not provide absolute clinical measurements. The investigators will also explore whether changes recorded by the device occur around signs or treatments related to blood loss. The main questions are: * Can the device collect usable information during and after surgery without interfering with routine care? * What device-related problems, such as skin irritation or discomfort, occur? * Do changes in the device measurements occur around changes in blood pressure, laboratory results, fluid administration, or blood transfusion? * How comfortable and practical is the device for participants and bedside nurses? Participants undergoing surgery will wear the device on the upper arm or chest. Trained study staff will apply the device before surgery. The device will remain in place for up to 48 hours after surgery, or until discharge or earlier removal. Participants will continue to receive usual hospital monitoring and care. Bedside nurses may also join the study and complete a short voluntary survey. Nurses may check the device position and adjust the strap for comfort. Nurses will not interpret the device measurements or use the measurements to make treatment decisions. Hemorai Vysio is an investigational device. The device measurements will be analyzed for research and will not be used to guide participants' medical care. Participants are not expected to receive a direct medical benefit from taking part.

Ostene in Thoracolumbar Decompression and Fusion Evaluated With VIBE

In spine surgery, it is important to try to minimize bleeding. In particular, spine surgery often involves inserting hardware into bone, and/or removing bone in the spine. Because the bone in the spine contains blood vessels, there can often be bleeding from the bone itself that is difficult to stop completely. One way to stop bone bleeding is through the use of wax-like materials, which plug the bleeding bone and act as a physical barrier to stop bleeding. One example is Ostene bone hemostasis material, which has the advantage of being "water soluble", meaning it will dissolve naturally over time. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well Ostene does at decreasing bleeding, by using a recognized scale called the validated intraoperative bleeding severity scale, abbreviated as "VIBe". In this study, the investigators will record the bleeding severity throughout multiple time points in surgery using this scale, and then the investigators will compare the measurements to patients in the past who did not receive Ostene. Overall, this research will help measure how well Ostene decreases bleeding.

Effect of Tranexamic Acid on Bleeding After Bariatric Surgery

Postoperative bleeding is an important complication of bariatric surgery and may lead to increased morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and higher healthcare costs. Tranexamic acid (TXA) has been shown to reduce perioperative blood loss in several surgical specialties; however, evidence regarding its effectiveness and safety in bariatric surgery remains limited. This retrospective observational cohort study aims to evaluate the effect of prophylactic intraoperative tranexamic acid administration on perioperative bleeding in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The primary objective is to assess the postoperative decrease in hemoglobin levels. Secondary objectives include evaluating the need for blood transfusion, length of hospital stay, and the incidence of thromboembolic complications, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, portal vein thrombosis, and acute coronary syndrome. The study includes patients who underwent bariatric surgery at G. Gennimatas General Hospital between May 1, 2024, and April 30, 2026.
