Auricular Acupressure in Prehabilitation

Complementary medicine is recognized for its ability to enhance appetite, increase energy, reduce anxiety, decrease pain, and improve sleep, among many other benefits. Acupuncture is among the most frequent types of complementary medicine practiced in the US, and Medicare currently includes back pain as a reimbursable indication for this therapy. Acupuncture-related therapies may enhance efforts at prehabilitation in candidates for major lung resection.

Get Fit for Function

The purpose of this study will be to implement and evaluate a prehab program for pre-frail and frail adults who need to undergo thoracic surgery. The study team hypothesizes using an implementation framework will increase the reach, effectiveness, adoption, and implementation of the prehab program.

Improving Thoracic Surgical Care Using Electronic Patient-Reported Outcomes (ePROS)

This is a single-site, non-randomized study on the outcomes of remote real-time "ePRO monitoring" in thoracic surgery patients. ePRO monitoring is a health information technology intervention comprised of delivering longitudinal electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) surveys (e.g., on symptoms, and physical functioning) coupled with automated provider alerts for concerning survey responses.

Frequency and Severity of Respiratory Acidosis During One-lung Ventilation, a Retrospective Pilot Study to Compare Clinician Settings and Those Proposed by the VentilO Application

One-lung ventilation is a mechanical ventilation method frequently used during several thoracic surgeries. One-lung ventilation requires the use of protective ventilation to limit ventilator-induced injury and reduce postoperative respiratory complications. Protective ventilation during one-lung ventilation is specific since tidal volumes are applied by definition to one lung, and it is recommended to use lower tidal volumes, down to 4 ml/kg of ideal body weight. This approach requires individualized ventilation parameters, which differs from the conventional or two-lung ventilation, and there are no clear recommendations regarding respiratory rate adjustment to ensure adequate gas exchange.

Perioperative Anxiety Risk Factors in Parents of Children Undergoing Thoracic Surgery

Risk factors associated with perioperative anxiety in parents of pediatric patients undergoing thoracic surgery are unknown. It is therefore necessary to identify them in order to better understand, above all, modifiable factors. This will allow the implementation of psychological interventions tailored to the individual needs of parents to strengthen their coping mechanisms before surgery, and thus facilitate the recovery process of their children after surgery. The purpose of the study is: 1. assessment of the level of anxiety experienced by parents before and after thoracic surgery, 2. assessment of risk factors for parents' perioperative anxiety, 3. assessment of the relationship between parents' perioperative anxiety and satisfaction with postoperative analgesia

Intercostal Nerve Block for Pain Management After Uniportal Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgeries

The goal of this clinical trial is to compare the safety and effectiveness of the three intercostal nerve blocks used in pain management in uniportal (one port) thoracoscopic surgeries: internal intercostal nerve blocks (ICNB), external ICNB, and Intercostal catheters. Participants will be randomly assigned to three groups: * First group will undergo internal intercostal nerve block * Second group will be given external intercostal nerve block * Third group will have an intercostal catheter Researchers will compare the three groups to see their impact on post-operative pain management in uniportal VATS.
