Adenoidectomy With or Without Partial Inferior Turbinectomy for Pediatric Nasal Obstruction

Nasal obstruction is a common problem in children and is frequently caused by adenoid hypertrophy with concomitant inferior turbinate hypertrophy, leading to sleep-disordered breathing and reduced quality of life. Although adenoidectomy is the standard treatment, persistent nasal obstruction may occur in some patients due to inferior turbinate enlargement. Recent evidence suggests that combining inferior turbinate reduction with adenoidectomy may provide superior relief of nasal obstruction and improve postoperative outcomes compared with adenoidectomy alone. The study aims to compare the effectiveness of adenoidectomy alone versus adenoidectomy combined with endoscopic bilateral partial inferior turbinectomy in relieving nasal obstruction and sleep-disordered breathing in children with adenoid and bilateral inferior turbinate hypertrophy.

Blocking Sphenopalatine Ganglion by Intranasal Lidocaine Spray in Partial Turbinectomy Surgeries

Nasal turbinectomy surgeries are usually done as day case surgeries as most patients are young with unremarkable comorbidities. However, considerations are still present towards patients of old age or those suffering from obesity or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Different techniques are still evolving to improve handling those patients to decrease complications, enhance recovery after surgery and increase patient satisfaction. Targeting sphenopalatine ganglion block by topical local anesthesia is a proposed technique that could help by decreasing peri-operative opioid consumption.

Effects of Platelet-Rich Fibrin on Postoperative Outcomes Following Nasosinusal Surgery

tudy Design This was a prospective, randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial designed to evaluate the effects of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on postoperative healing following partial inferior turbinectomy. Patients undergoing surgery at the Centro de Otorrinolaringologia e Fonoaudiologia de São Paulo (COF) were allocated to either a PRF treatment group or a control group. Postoperative outcomes were assessed at 1 week and 1 month after surgery using a standardized evaluation protocol completed by blinded investigators. Clinical parameters related to wound healing and postoperative recovery were recorded and subsequently compared between groups to determine the impact of PRF application on surgical outcomes.
