The Florida ASCENT Study

The goal of this clinical trial is to adapt, implement, and evaluate MyCarePulse and ASCENT patient navigator to overcome barriers to care among patients with cancer. The main hypotheses it aims to test are: * At the patient level, the intervention will result in higher levels of food security, self- efficacy for dietary behaviors, and higher diet quality than standard care. * At the provider level, the intervention will be feasible, acceptable, appropriate, and able to enhance individualized care for patient wellness. Researchers will compare cancer patients receiving the MyCarePulse and ASCENT patient navigator intervention to those receiving standard care, to see if the intervention improves food security, self-efficacy, and diet quality. Phase 1 Patient Participants will: * Complete the ASCENT Questionnaire, which is comprised of the following: * U.S. Food Security Survey Module (U.S. FSSM) * Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS-29) * Automated Self-Administered 24-Hour (ASA24®) Dietary Assessment Tool * Be assessed using the Veggie Meter instrument * Participate in two semi-structured interviews Provider Participants will: •Participate in one semi-structured interview Phase 2 Patient Participants will: * Participate in ASCENT patient navigator screenings and consultations * Complete the ASCENT Questionnaire, which comprises the U.S. FSSM, PROMIS-29, and ASA24®

Food Literacy Intervention - is a "Train the Trainer" Approach Feasible and Effective?

Food literacy (FL) is the capability to make healthy food choices in different contexts, settings and situations. Although eating habits are shaped by different circumstances and skills, most nutrition programs focus on nutrition knowledge alone. Addressing factors such as competencies, self-efficacy and social norms enables sustainable positive change in nutrition behaviour. This study will assess a lay leader-led FL workshop to Arab and Jewish women from disadvantaged communities in the Jerusalem region, utilizing a train-the-trainer approach, and will compare the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a lay-led FL intervention to an expert-led intervention.

Maximizing Nutrition Education to Meet Dietary and Food Security of Children and Parents

Food insecurity and low diet quality are persistent problems linked with chronic disease and poor health among limited-resource children and adults using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). We have shown nutrition education via adult-focused, direct SNAP-Education (SNAP-Ed) improved household food security by 25% but not adult dietary quality among SNAP-eligible households using a randomized, controlled, longitudinal SNAP-Ed intervention in Indiana. Households experiencing food insecurity often reserve food considered "healthful" for children, so child dietary quality improvement may precede that observed among adults when household food security improves. This study will determine the effect of adult-focused direct SNAP-Ed on child dietary quality and household food security using a longitudinal randomized, controlled SNAP-Ed intervention. Assessment will include repeated 24-hour dietary recalls to determine usual intake, the U.S. Household Food Security Survey Module, and behavior data from before and after the 10-week "intervention period," and 1 year later, after which the control group will receive the intervention. Low-income participants (n=275) from Indiana will be recruited following SNAP-Ed protocol. Results of the study will inform the creation of supplementary on-demand SNAP-Ed educational material focused on improving healthful dietary intake for children and adults in situations of food insecurity in households with children. Education on modeling healthy attitudes and behaviors, planning and preparing family meals, and dietary shortfalls as informed by the results and previous evidence will be included and evaluated. The study aligns with the goals of USDA to increase food security and this RFP to improve healthful behaviors, food quality and nutrition.

University At Buffalo Campus Veggie Van Mobile Market

The goal of this observational study is to develop an adaptable mobile produce market model to be used on college campuses to increase college students' access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Food insecurity on college campuses threatens academic success and student well-being, and affects first generation, lower-income, and racial/ethnic minority students at higher rates. This research will include a pilot campus mobile market operated on the University at Buffalo campus. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1.) What makes it hard for students to eat healthy foods on the University at Buffalo campus, 2.) How does a mobile market need to operate on a college campus to best reach students, and 3.) What is the relationship between mobile market use and changes in how many fruits and vegetables students eat, students' ability to consistently eat foods that promote health and well-being, and participation in the Special Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

DietCoach: Development and Dietitian Evaluation of a Digital Dietary Counseling Platform

The DietCoach study aims to investigate the requirements of a digital dietary counseling platform, and evaluate the dietitian acceptance and usability of the DietCoach platform, which was developed based on the collected requirements. Additionally, the study examines how different levels of patient food purchase data availability affect these factors. The DietCoach platform automatically tracks historic and up-to-date patient food purchase data on loyalty cards and provides nutritional analysis, assisting dietitians in the dietary counseling process. The key research questions (RQ) are: 1. What are the requirements of a digital dietary counseling system based on food purchase data? 2. What is acceptance and usability of the DietCoach platform evaluated by dietitians? 3. How does the availability of patient food purchase data influence the acceptance and perceived usability of the DietCoach platform by dietitians? Dietitians from several cantonal hospitals in the German-speaking area of Switzerland are invited to participate in the study. To answer RQ1, we conduct a workshop and a survey with dietitians to derive key requirements on dietary counseling systems. To answer RQ2 and RQ3, we use a cross-sectional, mixed-methods, between-subjects study design. Researchers will evaluate and compare the acceptance and usability of DietCoach in 3 different conditions (3 patients that had different, i.e., high, medium and low, food purchase data availability). Each participant is assigned to the data of one patient. Participants are required to: 1. use the DietCoach platform to provide at least one dietary recommendation to patient food purchase data in two separate sessions. 2. provide quantitative and qualitative feedback about the acceptance and usability of the DietCoach platform.
