Communication Intervention to Improve Influenza Vaccination Rates Among Elderly in Can Tho

This study evaluates the effectiveness of a community-based communication intervention to increase influenza vaccination rates among the elderly (aged above 65) in Can Tho City, Vietnam. Using a cluster randomized controlled trial design, the intervention includes direct counseling, social media engagement (Zalo), and educational materials targeting the elderly, their relatives, and local health workers. The primary goal is to assess changes in vaccination coverage over a 9-month period.

Effects of Motivational Interviewing Training on Nursing Students' Counselling Skills, Self-Efficacy, and Reluctance

This research is designed to determine the effect of motivational interview-based communication training on nursing students' counselling skills, communication self-efficacy, and communication reluctance levels. The project will be conducted using a randomised controlled experimental design. The sample will consist of 72 second-year nursing students studying at the Department of Nursing, Ankara University Faculty of Nursing. Participants will be randomly assigned to experimental (n=36) and control (n=36) groups. The experimental group will receive motivational interview-based communication training, while the control group will receive training on basic communication and interpersonal interaction skills in nursing. The training will consist of five sessions; theoretical sessions will be 60 minutes each, and the standard patient interview practice to be applied to the experimental group will last three days. The standard patient interview practices will be conducted in the Communication Skills Laboratory of Ankara University Faculty of Nursing. The research data will be collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Counselling Skills Scale for Nurses, the Effective Communication Self-Efficacy Inventory, and the Communication Reluctance Scale, through pre-test, post-test, and follow-up measurements. Additionally, the project plans to train individuals to assume the role of a standard patient in the communication skills laboratory, creating a standard patient pool that can be used in future training and research. The project expects that motivational interview-based communication training will strengthen nursing students' counselling skills and communication self-efficacy, and reduce communication reluctance. The results are intended to provide a scientific contribution to the planning and development of communication training in nursing education programs.

Patient-centered Precision Medicine Lab Result Communication for Older Adults

For adults ≥65 years and their providers, the investigators will test the usability and design of a tool to replace standard uniform reporting of lab results to patients and their providers with a new personalized Electronic Health Record (EHR) lab result communication tool that: 1) extracts patient-level data from the EHR; 2) calculates individual risk; and 3) for patients with very low risk, communicates the individualized risk information. The investigators will employ a range of User Experience (UX) research methods to understand how patient and provider users interact with the new lab result communication tool and to assess their comprehension of the lab results. This study will be conducted with both patient and provider participants. The patient participant portion of this study uses a four-arm, design to evaluate three newly designed laboratory result communication template reports compared with the current standard (control) communication. The provider participant portion of this study is non-randomized; all provider participants will review all four template reports. This will include live semi-structured interviews with the participants and review of the template report(s) of the Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) lab result communication tool. An anonymous in-person template report feedback survey will be provided to the participants to gauge their understanding of the template report(s), clarity of the information presented, and overall satisfaction with the tool. This will be a single-visit interaction with the participant in the UCLA Health geriatric or general medicine patient waiting room.

Promoting Goals-of-Care Discussions for Patients With Memory Problems and Their Caregivers

The goal of this clinical trial is to improve communication among clinicians, patients with memory problems, and their family members. We are testing a way to help clinicians have better conversations to address patients' goals for their healthcare. To do this, we created a simple, short guide called the "Jumpstart Guide." The goal of this research study is to show that using this kind of guide is possible and can be helpful for patients and their families. Patients' clinicians may receive a Jumpstart Guide before the patient's clinic visit. Researchers will compare patients whose clinician received a Jumpstart Guide to patients whose clinician did not receive a guide to see if more patients in the Jumpstart Guide group had conversations about the patient's goals for their healthcare. Patients and their family members will also be asked to complete surveys after the visit with their clinician.

Older People's Preventive Care Utilization

Objectives: To empower older people's decision making for taking the recommended vaccines including seasonal influenza vaccines, pneumococcal vaccines, and COVID-19 vaccine (if it is recommended annually). Hypotheses to be tested: The interventions designed using Mental Models Approach and Patient Activation Approach will promote older people's confidence in knowledge and skills regarding vaccination decisions, perceived self-efficacy in self-management of health, positive emotional engagement with vaccination decisions and a positive future time perspective which will subsequently promote their uptake of the recommended vaccines. Design and subjects: This will be a two-arm randomized control trial. Subjects will be community-dwelling older people aged 70 years or above. Instruments: A questionnaire will be used to collect baseline data before the interventions and follow-up data 1 months and 4 months, respectively, after the end of interventions. Interventions: Interventions included one booklet to communicate information about preventive care by bridging expert knowledge and older people's existing mental models, and six patient activation sections conducted over telephone. One patient activation section will be delivered per week by trained medical students. Main outcome measures: Main outcomes will be participants' uptake of the three recommended vaccines assessed at 1 month and 4 months after the end of interventions. Data analysis and expected results: Generalized estimating equation logistic regression will be used to assess the intervention effects. The investigators expect that the interventions can promote at least 20% increase in uptake of any one of the three recommended vaccines in the intervention group compared with the control group.
