THE EFFECTS OF CIRCADIAN RHYTHM-BASED PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION EXERCISES IN HEMODIALYSIS PATIENTS

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Progressive Relaxation Exercise (PGE) applied according to the circadian rhythms of hemodialysis (HD) patients on symptom management, sleep quality, comfort and mental well-being levels and to examine the experiences of HD patients regarding PGE application. A sequential mixed method research design will be used in the study. The quantitative part of the study was planned as a randomized controlled double-blind experimental study. The qualitative part will be conducted as a qualitative research to be carried out with individual in-depth interview method in order to examine the opinions of the individuals in the intervention group regarding the 8-week PGE applied according to the circadian rhythm. In the collection of research data, the Introductory Information Form, Morningness-Eveningness Questionnaire (MEQ), Dialysis Symptom Index, Hemodialysis Comfort Scale - Version II, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale (WEMIOÖ), Individual Follow-up Form, Progressive Relaxation Exercise Application Guideline (PGEUY) and In-Depth Interview Form with Individuals in the Intervention Group will be used.

CABG-AI-Supported Discharge Education

This randomized controlled trial will evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence-supported individualized discharge education for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery. Participants will be assigned to either the intervention group, which will receive personalized AI-generated discharge education delivered through a nurse-avatar video in addition to standard verbal education, or the control group, which will receive standard discharge education only. The study will compare postoperative pain, anxiety, physiological stress response, recovery, and satisfaction with discharge education between the two groups. Outcomes will be measured during hospitalization and at the routine postoperative follow-up visit. The findings may help improve patient education methods and postoperative recovery in cardiac surgery patients.

Empowering Nursing Newcomers Program

In the Netherlands, more and more nurses with an international background, such as refugees and migrants, are starting to work in healthcare. Many of them already have a lot of knowledge and experience, but it is not always easy to quickly adapt to the Dutch healthcare system and a new language. That is why the programme "Empowering Newcomers Nurses" was developed. This study aims to better understand how the programme works in practice. Participants and supervisors will be asked about their experiences to identify what works well and what could be improved. The costs and the benefits are also taken into account. The results will be used to further improve the programme. It will also be assessed whether the work environment is inclusive and welcoming for participants. For example, this may involve (unconscious) microaggressions, exclusion, or negative comments, including those that may be discriminatory or racist. By making these experiences visible, it becomes easier to address them and make improvements. In addition, scientific articles will be published so that other hospitals can also learn from these insights. Who can participate? Nursing newcomers who are already participating in the programme or who will start the programme soon are invited to take part in the study. Sometimes participants with another paramedical background also take part. For this study, it is expected that over a period of 9 years about 160-230 participants will take part in total, of whom 120-150 will be from the northern region of the Netherlands. This number is not strictly required, but it helps to better understand how the programme works, what works well, and where improvements may be possible. In this way, a more complete picture of the programme can be obtained.

THE EFFECT OF GUİDED IMAGERY ON PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME

EFFECT OF GUIDED IMAGERY ON PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) is a condition characterized by physical, behavioral, and emotional symptoms that appear at the end of the luteal phase, 7-10 days before menstruation, and resolve with the onset of menstruation. Symptoms include irritability, loss of control, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, decreased concentration, unexplained crying, fatigue, weakness, changes in appetite, edema, headaches, joint and muscle pain, breast tenderness, altered sexual activity, and social withdrawal. In young women, PMS can negatively affect self-confidence, social relationships, quality of life, and academic performance. PMS treatment aims to relieve both physical and psychological symptoms and may include dietary supplements and complementary-alternative therapies. Approaches such as reflexology, pilates, acupressure, music, exercise, and guided imagery have shown promising results in reducing premenstrual symptoms. Mind-body-based approaches in complementary therapies are known to support psychological well-being. Guided imagery, a form of mind-body communication, involves the flow of thoughts and the way the mind encodes, stores, and expresses sensory information. It is based on the understanding that the mind and body are interconnected and that mental processes can influence physical responses. Guided imagery has been shown to reduce stress, improve mood, enhance sleep quality, strengthen the immune system, reduce fatigue, and minimize nausea and vomiting. Although effective, research on the use of guided imagery to reduce PMS symptoms in university students is limited. This study aims to investigate the effect of guided imagery on premenstrual syndrome in this population.

Designing a Virtual Reality Intervention to Improve Physical and Psychological Health in Intensive Care Units

The goal of this study is to explore if Virtual Reality helps patients in the cardiothoracic ICU move more and feel better. Participants will be asked to answer a survey about anxiety, depression, and loneliness. The study team will teach participants how to use the VR device and how to play the game. Participants will play the game at least once per day, but can play as much as they want. Study activities include nurse facilitated patient use of VR applications that involve upper body movement (e.g., using arms and hands to dance or hit objects in a virtual reality environment).

Effects of Music on Procedural Pain in Distal Radius Fracture Reduction

This randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluates the effectiveness of music as a complementary intervention for pain control during non-surgical reduction of distal radius fractures in orthopedic patients. Distal radius fractures are among the most common traumatic injuries presenting to emergency departments and are frequently associated with intense procedural pain and significant physiological stress responses. Despite standard pharmacological analgesia, optimal pain management during fracture reduction remains a clinical challenge, and evidence regarding non-pharmacological adjuncts in the emergency orthopedic setting is still limited The study will enroll 192 adult patients admitted to the orthopedic emergency departments of AUSL Piacenza and AOU Parma with distal radius fractures requiring closed reduction. Participants will be randomly assigned (1:1:1) to one of three groups: a 20-minute session of patient-preferred music, a 20-minute session of standardized music selected by a music therapist, or standard care without music. Pain intensity will be assessed using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), while physiological stress will be evaluated through heart rate and blood pressure measurements, collected at baseline (T0) and 20 minutes later (T1), immediately after the reduction procedure The trial is designed as a prospective, randomized, controlled study with blinded data analysis, and all data will be collected and managed in compliance with current privacy and data protection regulations. By generating robust evidence on a low-cost, safe, and easily implementable intervention, the PolSound trial aims to improve procedural pain management and patient experience in emergency orthopedic care, potentially supporting the integration of music-based interventions into standard analgesic protocols.

Digital Twin-Haptic Integrated Mixed Reality Simulation

The responsibility for the management of pressure injuries belongs to nurses; the development of pressure injuries indicates that nursing care is not adequate. Pressure injury management should be addressed starting from undergraduate education in line with current guidelines. However, programs in which traditional education methods are used in pressure injury management are insufficient. Therefore, pressure injuries should be addressed with a structured simulation practice integrated with advanced technological methods. Any study using mixed reality in pressure injury management was not found in the literature. There is a study using augmented reality with a smartphone to measure wounds and a study examining the effectiveness of augmented reality in leg ulcer care. The use of mixed reality simulation in pressure injury management is one of the unique values of the project. Within the scope of the project, anchoring and monitoring physical objects in all application steps in pressure injury management and creating a digital twin is the most important original value of this project, which is that the student is immersed in the virtual reality environment in real-time and experiences all the processes physically-haptically. The digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation proposed in this project will contribute to the pressure injury literature and education by increasing the retention of information in memory and providing a realistic experience to the student, as it appeals to both visual, auditory, and tactile senses. The main aim of this project is to develop a digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation in pressure injury management and to compare the effect of the developed digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation and the high reality simulation in the institutional infrastructure on the students' knowledge level, skill performance, perceived learning level, satisfaction, and confidence level in learning. The project is planned as a randomized and comparative type and will last 24 months. A total of 130 second-year nursing undergraduate students will be stratified and randomized into the digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation and high-fidelity simulation groups based on their course grades and gender. Data will be collected using tests and scales. In terms of project management, the project has been handled in four phases with six work packages; in the first preparation phase, validity and reliability studies of the data collection tools, scenarios, and theoretical training module developed by the project team will be carried out, and participant randomization will be carried out. In the second phase, simulation laboratories will be prepared. In the third stage, the mixed-reality simulation software will be created and tested. In the last stage, pre-test application, training with the theoretical training module, simulation application, post-test, and follow-up will be carried out. Data will be analyzed using SPSS®23. All work to be carried out within the scope of the project is defined concretely and according to the workflow, and who/s will carry out each work is defined according to the field of expertise. All possible risks that may be encountered during the project have been foreseen, and measures for risk management have been prepared as Plan B. Within the scope of the project, importance was given to the use of the facilities, infrastructure, and equipment available in the institution. Within the scope of the project, the digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation will be developed entirely with national resources and registered. The mixed reality simulation software will be commercialized for educational purposes. In addition, with the use of the digital twin-haptic integrated mixed reality simulation program in the management of pressure injury, the quality of education in the field of health will increase, and the IT infrastructure of the training curricula will be supported, and a standard will be provided throughout the country, thus creating a sufficient and qualified workforce in this field. As a result of this qualified training, it is predicted that pressure injury rates will decrease and patient safety will increase in the long term. With the mixed reality simulation program, the leadership power of our country in the international arena, its potential, and recognition in the field of education and technology will be increased.

The Effect of Education on Quality of Life, Adherence to Immunosuppressive Therapy and Symptom Control in Organ Transplant Patients

Organ transplantation is the most effective method for treating end-stage organ failure and allows patients on the verge of death to continue living. Organ transplantation involves removing all or part of an organ or tissue from the body and transplanting it to suitable patients experiencing failure. Therefore, transplants are performed to treat diseases, save lives, improve patients' quality of life, and extend their life expectancy. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines quality of life as individuals' perceptions of their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns regarding their place in life, within the context of the culture and value systems they live in. Achieving an adequate quality of life after transplantation is considered an indicator of therapeutic success, which is increasingly important to measure by the transplant care team. Individuals who undergo transplantation and their families often perceive transplantation as a rebirth. However, 30% to 40% of patients report no better health-related quality of life after kidney transplantation compared to dialysis. This is attributed to frequent checkups and monitoring, new medications and their strict dosing schedules, and the unexpected discomfort of potential side effects. Even after the psychological challenges of waiting and the joy of a successful transplant, transplant recipients take on new responsibilities. Problems such as accepting transplantation risks, acute and chronic organ rejection, and adherence to lifelong medication regimens can arise. Persistent side effects of various immunosuppressive agents, adaptation and maintenance of the new organ, and uncertainty about the future due to rejection of transplanted organs and the subsequent re-transplantation process can all lead to physical and psychological distress. Immunosuppressive therapy represents a lifelong endeavor for transplant recipients. These medication regimens involve complex protocols, not only due to the number of pills required, but also due to blood level monitoring, side effects, and frequent dose adjustments to avoid rejection. Non-adherence to immunosuppressant regimens has been shown to be high in organ transplant patients. Non-adherence rates in this population are reported as high as 65%. The highest immunosuppressant non-adherence rate is found in kidney transplant recipients, with a prevalence of 36-55%, while this rate is 15-40% in liver transplant recipients. Studies have found that 16-36% of graft losses are associated with non-adherence. The ever-growing population of transplant recipients and the limited number of transplant centers, particularly those living farther away, necessitate innovative healthcare delivery models to monitor and improve the use of transplant center resources. With the advent of smartphones and mobile medical devices, mobile health has become a popular way for healthcare professionals to manage patient care. Mobile health can serve as an adjunct method for delivering health education information, sending reminders to patients to take their medications, and implementing online education. In particular, converting paper-based education to video format can significantly increase knowledge on various topics. It is necessary to address the problems and challenges patients face after discharge and the practices that can potentially address these issues. These results suggest that healthcare professionals can do more to provide comprehensive care to patients, promote successful home-based treatment regimens, symptom control, and quality of life.

Compassionate care is an emotion that can be taught and developed with innovative interactive methods along with developing technology. Methods such as video-supported teaching and case analysis, which are widely used in nursing education, contribute to developing cognitive and affective skills such as interpretation, critical thinking, and problem-solving in nurses. In this context, it is aimed to implement compassionate care training, developed based on Watson's Human Caring Model, on nurses by enriching it with video-supported teaching and case analysis methods, and to evaluate the effect of this training on nurses' compassion levels and caring behaviors.

In clinical settings, teamwork plays a vital role in improving patient care outcomes. Effective and structured communication within the team ensures that a holistic service is provided to patients. However, unclear and inadequate communication between healthcare professionals is a common problem. Such communication problems can be one of the main factors that compromise patient safety and lead to medication errors. Nurses play a key role in this process as they are the healthcare professionals who interact most with patients. Nurses need to not only correctly understand the instructions to be given to the patient, but also to convey information about the patient clearly and accurately to other nurses, doctors and other members of the healthcare team. In this context, opportunities to communicate using a common language and develop these skills form an essential part of the education of nursing students. The use of structured communication tools, especially SBAR, can play an important role in the prevention of medical errors while improving the clinical decision-making skills of future nurses. The SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) communication tool is a structured model used to ensure effective communication in healthcare. "The Effect of SBAR Communication Program on Clinical Decision Making and Medical Error Awareness Levels of Nursing Students: A Mixed Method Study" is a mixed method research using experimental and qualitative research designs. The data of the research will be collected with the "Student Information Form", "Clinical Decision Making Scale in Nursing" and "Medical Error Scale for Nursing Students" "Semi-Structured Interview Form". Quantitative data processing and statistical analysis will be done with SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) software. Qualitative data analysis will be done using hand coding and content analysis method. As a result, this research will clearly demonstrate the benefits of integrating communication tools such as SBAR into nursing education, contribute to the development of new methods in education and the reduction of medical errors.

Reflexology Massage and Hot Water Foot Bath for Pain and GI Recovery After Colorectal Surgery

This study was planned to examine the effect of non-invasive treatment methods that can be applied to alleviate complications involving gastrointestinal system functions such as pain, nausea, vomiting, and absence of gas/faecal output after colorectal (colon and rectum) cancer surgery. The two main intervention methods of the study were reflexology massage and hot water foot bath. The effects of these methods on reducing postoperative pain and improving gastrointestinal functions will be investigated. The study was planned as a randomised controlled experimental study to determine the effects of reflexology massage and hot water foot bath on postoperative pain and gastrointestinal functions in colorectal cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery. It is thought that the study will provide evidence for determining the appropriate method to reduce pain and improve gastrointestinal functions in patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery. The population of the study will consist of colorectal cancer patients who will undergo laparoscopic surgical intervention who are admitted to the General Surgery Clinic of SBU Istanbul Ümraniye Training and Research Hospital. Based on the percentage measurement values of the methods to be studied in the literature review, G-POWER programme was used for sample calculation with an effect size of 0.4 (Cohen), 95% power and 0.05% margin of error. Cohen\'s standard effect size was taken as the basis for the effect size. The calculated value is the total value for 3 groups and the total sample size for 3 groups was found as n=102. The number of samples per group was determined as (n)=34. In order to prevent bias in the study, patients who meet the study criteria will be distributed to the experimental and control groups by computerised randomisation programme. Data will be collected by using the Patient Information Form consisting of two parts, Rhodes Nausea, Vomiting and Retching Index and Numerical Proportioning Scale (NRS) developed by the researcher in line with the literature. The data obtained will be evaluated with appropriate statistical methods in the licensed SPSS 21.0 package programme.

Mobile Education and Telephone Monitoring for ICD Patients: Effects on Anxiety, Acceptance, and Self-Efficacy

Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of a mobile education program and telephone monitoring developed for patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) on shock anxiety, device acceptance, and self-efficacy. Method: The study was designed as a single-blind, randomized controlled trial consisting of two phases. In the first phase, the Mobile ICD Education Program (M-ICDEP) was developed. In the second phase, the effectiveness of M-ICDEP was evaluated through a randomized controlled design with 88 ICD patients who attended routine battery check-ups. Research data were collected through the mobile education program using the Personal Information Form, Florida Shock Anxiety Scale (FSAS), Florida Patient Acceptance Scale (FPAS), and the Self-Efficacy and Outcome Expectations Scales After ICD Implantation (OE-ICD and SB-ICD). Additionally, patients underwent a shock management simulation via M-ICDEP, and their data were assessed using the Shock Management Control Form, which was included in the evaluation of shock anxiety. Patients in both the intervention and control groups used M-ICDEP for three months. The control group had access only to the brief educational booklet section containing general information, while the intervention group had access to all sections. Patients in the intervention group also received telephone follow-ups during the second, fifth, and eighth weeks of the monitoring period. Data were collected twice: once before the intervention (pre-test) and once in the third month (post-test). Statistical analyses will conducted using the SAS 9.4 software package.
