Site of Tracheal Extubation and Operating Room Efficiency During Robot-assisted Surgery

This study aims to evaluate the impact of different extubation strategy on the occupancy time of operating room (OR) and the incidence of adverse events and quality of recovery after robotic-assisted surgery. The investigators hypothesize that extubation in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) may reduce OR occupancy time without increasing adverse events or worsening quality of recovery early after robotic-assisted surgery. This strategy may enhance perioperative efficiency while maintaining clinical safety.

Surgical Operating Room Enhancement Curriculum for Medical Students

The goal of this clinical trial is to assess whether integrating an enhanced Surgical Operating Room (OR) curriculum into the medical student program improves knowledge and proficiency in gynecologic surgical techniques and procedures among medical students at Wayne State University. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does the Surgical Operating Room Enrichment Course increase medical students' knowledge and comfort with gynecologic surgical procedures? Does participation in the course improve students' clinical perceptions and management of gynecologic emergencies? Researchers will compare students who participate in the Surgical Operating Room Enrichment Course (intervention group) to those who complete the standard rotation (control group) to see if the enhanced curriculum leads to greater improvements in knowledge and clinical skills. Participants will: Attend virtual didactic lectures covering gynecologic anatomy, perioperative care, surgical techniques, and management of gynecologic emergencies Complete pre- and post-training surveys assessing knowledge, skills, and perceptions related to gynecologic surgery This study involves approximately 60 medical students, with participation being voluntary and all responses de-identified.

Working With Your Body in the Operating Room. The Case of Operating Room Nurses (RCIBO)

The undocumented observation, repeatedly observed in the operating rooms, of discomfort, including fainting, among medical and paramedical novices working in contact with surgical breaches raises questions about the mechanisms put in place to cope with what seems initially unimaginable. Indeed, accounts in the social sciences show that the surgical opening of a living person is, in some ways, a transgressive act, forbidden outside the operating room. By spilling blood, it induces a 'symbolic disorder' described by Mary Douglas, that is contained through ritualized practices, predispositions towards objectification, and injunctions to control affects. The use of surgical drapes allows for the partial erasure of the person being operated on, who is no longer seen as a subject, but as an object of care - a dehumanized body or 'image-object' described by Amandine Klipfel. It is possible that ORNs are gradually adapting to negotiate the reconfiguration of bodies in the operating room, the transgression inherent in the surgical opening of a living person, and the personal resonance this may have for them. The investigator questions the specificities of their profession and their physical, emotional, and cognitive relationships following the initial shock of confronting open bodies. Is it possible to grow accustomed to or adapt to open bodies to the point of no longer experiencing difficulties related to what was once unthinkable? The investigator aims to understand what becomes of these initially unrepresentable experiences and roles ORNs have in redefining the bodies present - the processes of objectification and rehumanization of patients in the operating rooms. This doctoral study grasps the cognitive and imaginary constructions they experience in France and Canada.

Efficiency of Operating Room Simulation for Training Medical Students at King Saud University (EORMST-KSU)

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of operating room (OR) simulation-based training in improving anesthesia skills and decision-making for medical students at King Saud University. Specifically, the study focuses on the integration of SimMan 3G technology and high-fidelity simulation scenarios within the MEDI045 Basic Anesthesia and Resuscitation course. By engaging in realistic, high-stress scenarios, the students will practice essential tasks such as airway management, anesthesia administration, and patient surveillance. The goal is to enhance students' technical skills, critical decision-making, and ability to adapt to dynamic clinical conditions. In addition to evaluating improvements in anesthesia competencies, the study also seeks to assess student satisfaction and confidence levels after completing the simulation-based training. The research will contribute to a better understanding of how simulation can bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application in anesthesia education. Data collected will include quantitative measures of technical proficiency and decision-making effectiveness, along with qualitative feedback regarding students' experiences, perceptions of competency, and overall satisfaction with the revised curriculum. The findings will help refine medical education practices, with a focus on patient safety, effective communication, and teamwork within the OR. The study is being conducted at King Saud University and involves fourth-year medical students enrolled in the MEDI045 course.
