Virtual Menstrual Pain Approaches in Females

This research study is testing two self-care approaches that may help prevent or reduce period pain in young females with primary dysmenorrhea, a common condition that causes painful menstrual cramps. Participants will be placed by chance into 1 of 3 groups: auricular acupressure, Baduanjin qigong, or a self-care education comparison group. The auricular acupressure and Baduanjin groups will receive online training and then practice the treatment on their own for 12 weeks. The main question is whether these two approaches can reduce the severity of menstrual pain. The study will also look at whether they can improve other symptoms that often happen with period pain, such as tiredness, poor sleep, anxiety, low mood, trouble concentrating, and reduced physical function. Researchers will also study stool and blood-related biological markers to better understand whether changes in gut bacteria and body metabolism may be linked to symptom improvement. A total of 145 participants will take part in the study at NTU, and any side effects or other safety concerns will be checked every week.

The Effects of Acupressure and Massage Following Cesarean Section

Cesarean section births have rapidly increased both in our country and worldwide in recent years. According to OECD data, one in four births worldwide and one in two births in our country is a cesarean section. The cesarean section has become one of the most frequently performed surgical interventions. The incision from a cesarean section causes pain, mobilization issues, and delays in mother-infant interaction. The choice of pharmacological methods used after a cesarean section is often limited by concerns about the baby and breastfeeding, leading to inadequate pain management and causing women to experience moderate to high levels of pain. Pain negatively affects individuals' comfort, leading to sleep disturbances, fatigue, and a decreased quality of life. It makes daily activities and responsibilities as individuals more challenging to manage. There is a need for nurses, in their primary caregiver role, to adopt a multidisciplinary approach to pain management and to develop their skills in using non-pharmacological methods. These methods should be clinically applied and proven effective. Acupressure and massage are long-standing, cost-effective, easy-to-apply, and effective methods used to reduce pain. This study aims to reduce pain and fatigue and improve sleep quality in women who have undergone a cesarean section by applying acupressure and massage in the postoperative period, thereby preventing the chronicization of these problems.

The Effect of Acupressure on Symptoms in Elderly Adults With Painful Diabetic Neuropathy

This project aims to evaluate the effects of acupressure applied to elderly individuals with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) on neuropathic symptoms, balance confidence, fear of falling, and quality of life. This project will be conducted using a mixed methodology integrating quantitative and qualitative methods. Elderly individuals will be randomly assigned to an acupressure or placebo control group. The acupressure group will receive a total of 10 sessions of acupressure over one month. Outcome measures include assessments of neuropathic pain and symptoms, balance confidence, fear of falling, and quality of life. Appropriate statistical tests will be used to analyze the quantitative data obtained from the study, while content analysis will be used for the qualitative data.

Effect of Acupressure on Blood Glucose And Anxiety in Elderly With Diabetes

This study is designed to evaluate the effect of acupressure on blood glucose levels and anxiety in elderly individuals with diabetes. Participants will be assigned to an acupressure intervention group or a control group. The primary outcome of the study is blood glucose level, which will be assessed at baseline and at the end of the intervention period. Secondary outcomes include anxiety levels.

Acupressure for Cough in Lung Cancer Survivors

The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to examine the effect of an acupressure intervention in alleviating cough and reducing co-occurring symptoms (dyspnea, cough, and fatigue) in patients with lung cancer. The hypotheses are: 1. Acupressure can alleviate cough in lung cancer survivors; 2. Acupressure can reduce a cough-related symptom cluster (dyspnea-cough-fatigue) experienced by lung cancer survivors; 3. Acupressure can reduce the symptom burden and improve the health-related quality of life and functional capacity of lung cancer survivors experiencing cough. Participants will: Receive acupressure for 8 weeks or receive an education booklet; Keep a diary of their acupressure practice and symptoms; Be assessed at baseline (T0), early intervention (T1), post-intervention (T2), and 8 weeks after the intervention period (T3).

The Effects of Acupressure on Pain, Swelling and Comfort in Patients With Femoral Fracture Surgery

Pain is a subjective and unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. Fractures result from a disruption in the continuity of bone, where bones are subjected to traction, twisting, or compression, causing damage to the surrounding muscular tissues. The treatment of displaced or complex fractures typically requires internal fixation surgery. 89% of fracture patients experience postoperative pain and swelling by the second day following open reduction and internal fixation surgery. These negative sensations can lead to increased pain, limb deformity, and neurovascular compression injuries. If postoperative pain is not adequately managed, it can affect wound healing, increase metabolism and oxygen consumption, and place additional strain on cardiopulmonary function. It is necessary to integrate alternative, non-pharmacological, non-invasive pain relief measures. Effectively and safely alleviating acute postoperative pain can enhance comfort, promote early mobilization, improve adherence to postoperative physical therapy, enhance quality of life and shorten hospital stays.

Acupressure Therapy on Post-stroke Fatigue, Depression, and Sleep Disturbances in Ischemic Stroke Patients

Post-stroke fatigue (PSF) was defined as 'a subjective feeling of physical and/or mental exhaustion that is unrelated to exertion and does not typically improve with rest'. About 25\~85% of first stoke patients had PSF in the first year. Literature review from animal studies suggested the mechanism of post-stroke fatigue may be due to prolonged production of inflammatory cytokines process after stroke. Acupuncture therapy which regulates the inflammatory process may have the potential to ameliorate fatigue symptoms alone with sleep disturbance after stroke. Acupressure which stimulating the same acupoints by manually pressure may make it easy to perform in anytime and anywhere. The effect of circadian based acupressure application on post-stroke fatigue and sleep disturbances need be further examined. The purpose of this two-year study is to (1) explore the distribution of inflammatory cytokines (blood and urine IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-8) and post-stroke fatigue and sleep, and (2) examine the effect of circadian-based acupressure application on the inflammatory cytokines (urine and blood IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-8), and post-stroke symptoms fatigue and sleep) in ischemic stroke patients with post-stroke fatigue during rehabilitation. Ischemic stroke patients (N=240) will be assessed from the rehabilitation wards. Patients with fatigue (FAS\>=24) at assessment (n=78) will be further randomly assigned to the circadian based acupressure application group (AA), or the routine care control group (RC) for 2 weeks. Data of inflammatory cytokines (of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, IL-8), post-stroke fatigue (Fatigue assessment scale), and sleep (Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index and consumer tracker) will be collected. Descriptive statistics, t-test, repeated measure ANOVA, linear/logistic regression or appropriate nonparametric equivalent will be used to compare pre-post differences and to compare differences between groups. Study results will provide information about the mechanism and effect of acupressure application on inflammation and post-stroke fatigue and sleep disturbances in ischemic stroke patients.
