Non-invasive Prediction of EArly Cardiac rEjection

Acute rejection remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pediatric patients after heart transplant. In order to screen for rejection, most centers perform heart catheterizations with endomyocardial biopsies frequently in the first year post transplant and then every 1-2 years thereafter; these biopsies are associated with complications, can cause significant anxiety in patients and family members, and are a significant cost for the healthcare system. This project will evaluate non-invasive methods of detecting rejection using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and blood testing with a goal to reduce the required number of cardiac catheterizations.

Screening, Characterization, and Longitudinal Follow-up of Patients With Cardiac Amyloidosis

Cardiac amyloidosis is a progressive disorder caused by extracellular deposition of amyloid fibrils in the heart, leading to heart failure and impaired cardiac function. Early diagnosis and targeted therapies are essential to improve patient outcomes. This prospective, single-center study aims to longitudinally follow patients with suspected cardiac amyloidosis to characterize disease progression and assess treatment effects. Participants will undergo cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (resting and exercise stress MRI), magnetic resonance spectroscopy, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (spiroergometry) and blood testing at baseline and at 6, 12, and 24 months

Myocardial Injury and Outcomes Following COVID-19 Vaccination (MYOVAX Study)

The study will focus on cardiac blood and imaging biomarkers to facilitate early recognition of patients at risk for myocardial injury after COVID-19 vaccination. Ultimately, the intention is to identify patients at risk, reduce adverse events, and determine the need for longer-term follow-up in patients with myocardial injury after vaccination.
