Sedation Safety Assessment Using IPI Monitoring in Pediatric Hematologic Procedures

Pediatric hematologic procedures such as lumbar puncture and bone marrow aspiration often require deep sedation due to pain and the need for immobility. Sedative and opioid combinations increase the risk of respiratory depression. Integrated Pulmonary Index (IPI) combines SpO₂, EtCO₂, respiratory rate, and heart rate into a single score and may allow earlier detection of respiratory compromise. This study aims to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of IPI monitoring in pediatric patients undergoing hematologic procedures under sedation with BIS monitoring.

Effect of Hand Puppet and Squeeze Toys on IV Placement in Pediatric Oncology Patients

This randomized controlled trial investigates hand puppet and squeeze toy techniques to reduce fear, emotional distress, and procedure time, and improve IV catheter placement success in 90 pediatric hematology-oncology patients (ages 6-10). Participants will be randomized into three groups: hand puppet, squeeze toy, or control. Outcomes include fear, emotional expression, procedure duration, number of attempts, and first-attempt success.

IMPACT: IMplementation of Physical Activity for Children and Adolescents on Treatment

Physical activity can enhance well-being among youth diagnosed with oncological or hematological diseases. We developed a tailored, 1:1, online physical activity program (i.e., IMPACT), to promote physical activity in this cohort. The proposed single-group, mixed-methods project will assess the effect of IMPACT and explore markers of implementation.
